Emily Adams trained with inclusive theatre company Chickenshed in London, UK and went on to co-lead their franchise company, Cotton Shed in the North of England where she ran workshops and directed performances for children, young people and adults with additional needs and learning challenges. Casey Kensinger and Kayla Glydewell are special education majors and have been assisting the theatre workshops for the past six months.
This class is designed to give children a safe and encouraging environment where they can explore their creativity and develop their performance and communication skills.
This is a wonderful class for children who have difficulty with social interaction or are nervous engaging in new projects in particular those on the Autistic Spectrum or with Downs Syndrome. As we are an inclusive theatre class, we also encourage any child who wishes to develop their theatre skills but may be apprehensive in joining a straight acting/musical theatre class.
During the classes, the students and teachers devise a short performance using everybody’s ideas and contributions and perform their play on the last morning of class.
We would encourage parents and caregivers to arrange a ‘meet and greet’ with us before the lessons starts so that we may meet the student and show them the theatre space so to put the child at ease and answer any questions from the student or parent care/giver.
